Hi list

Has anyone cracked the nut of using a Bluetooth headset with Say all?

My Airpod only seems to expose play/pause as a media control and nothing else.

First I thought about adding this as a gesture for say all in NVDA. This works, but means I can’t stop or pause reading.

Next, I tried remapping it to left shift using a tool called Sharpkeys, (because tapping the physical shift button pauses and resumes reading). It didn’t work though.

Does anyone else use Bluetooth to read longer-form content and have a solution? In a perfect world, my play/pause button would start say all if it wasn’t already going, and pause and optionally go back a line or sentence when I paused.

Do I need to invest in a remote?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks,

Sean.

Hi, Sean!  If you have old AirPods 1st or 2nd generation you can try to remap the action performed by double tap on one of these buds using any Apple's device: iPhone, iPad or mac, here is a link to instruction on how to do this
If you, for example, will remap the actionperformed onleft bud to "Go to previous track" then your AirPods will be able to send two standart commands to connected device instead only "Play/Pause" command by default. I'm not sure but i think that configuration will be saved in AirPods, not in Apple device on which you'll perform remapping. I have uGreen HiTune S3, a cheap clip buds, they don't have gestures for volume control, only play, prev. track and next track and NVDA understands these taps when input help is on, so, in my case i can map 3 actions in NVDA to be controlled using my earbuds. With many other models that can also control the volume we can have up to 5 actions to be activated using our headphones. And, of course, if we will map NVDA actions to standard media keys, we will lose their basic functionality while NVDA copy in which we have remapped these keysis running.

Hi Sean
I assume you want to wander away from the computer.  I sometimes do that and take a Bluetooth speaker and keyboard.
For your purposes, a Bluetooth mouse may do the trick.  Using - say - AutoHotKey the buttons on the mouse can easily be reassigned to what you want.  Shout if you want help with the script.  I don't know if that can be done with Sharp Keys and probably not a good idea anyway as the change is more permanent.
