What Happened to Google Applications and NVDA?

to NVDA Screen Reader Discussion
I have been using Google Drive, Google Sheets, and Google Docs off and on for years. One used to turn on "Screen Reader Mode" with Control + Alt + Z and/or turn on screen reader and Braille support from the tools menu with Alt + Shift + T, followed by arrowing down to accessibility.
If screen reader mode was already turned on, NVDA used to announce same when the screen came up.
Now, nothing works. Control + Alt + Z does nothing. Alt + Shift + T brings up the Chrome menu, not the Google Drive Tools menu.
I want to upload a file to a drive to which I have been invited, but none of the menus work. What happened? I don't have another screen reader installed. Thus, I cannot confirm whether the problem is with NVDA, Google, or me.

Don't you love it when things stop working.  Both ctrl+alt+z and alt+shift+t are still working here.  NVDA does not announce the change when ctrl+alt+z if pressed, but the change happens.  But, in Google Docs at least, alt+shift+t brings up the Tools Menu.  Incidentally, faster to arrow up to Accessibility than down.

Did you enable legacy braille support under tools > accessibility? you are supposed to now do that for the past few years now as well as the screen reader support.

Right. I started Google Sheets from scratch—after rebooting—and found that the menus work in Google Sheets and Google Docs. Google Drive is still funky, and I still cannot upload the file to a shared folder, but I think the problem is me, not NVDA.

Hi Ed,

If you install and run the Google Drive desktop client, it will create
a virtual G: drive on your PC. All you have to do is open File
Explorer and go to the G: drive. Once there, you will find a folder
called My Drive. All your Google Drive files and folders will be in
there.

You can do all the usual things inside the My Drive folder using File
Explorer that you can with a local folder tree such as rename, move,
copy, and delete files and folders. And you can press Shift+F10 or
the AppKey on a file or folder for Google Drive options.

HTH! :)

This is brilliant!! I have found that Google Sheets and Google Docs now work fine.
Google Drive, however, is a royal PAIN!
I never heard of a Google Drive desktop application. This is FANTASTIC information!

for those like me who use the web part of google drive, set your pain to list when able. You can get to the area where the files are listed area with alt G, then I. then arrow up and down. to access the actions right click, apps key or I assume shift f10. to get to the folder area it is alt G then N as in navigation. I use the windows app however I prefer the website when traveling or if I need to quickly upload  or create items.

I used the drive website for work, still do and while not perfect, it has become a lot better.

Note: all of  this must be done in focus mode with nvda, browse mode will give you a headache the size of Texas.

I'm not sure of all the keystrokes, so look them up and note what you need in a  notepad or external document.

Happy googling.
