Accessibility issues with VLC Media Player and NVDA

Hello,
I downloaded and installed VLC Media Player today, but I am experiencing the following issues. I am writing here because I am unsure whether these are accessibility bugs, a mistake on my part, or an issue related to the NVDA screen reader itself.
The issues are as follows:
1.
No matter how many times I press the Tab key, I cannot access the player buttons.
2.
I am unable to use the "L" key command to navigate through the playlist.

There is a VLC addon in the addon store. It's been a while since I used it so I'm not sure what functionality it provides. I've always found VLC a pain to navigate.

If you install the VLC add-on from the add-on store, this should fix the issues you're experiencing.

Many blind people use Winamp for audio files, mp3 etc. and VLC for
video content that can't be played in Winamp.
Those who use VLC Player may want to comment on that. I tried it just a
little and I found it so much less convenient to use that I continue to
use Winamp for audio.

I should add that I didn't try using the add-on and the player may be
somewhat or considerably better with it, yet my experience and other
negative comments I've seen leave me skeptical about it compared with
Winamp.

Hi.
The primary reason I use VLC is the amount of file format it supports
out of the box, and also so I can speed things up and slow them down.
This is especially useful if listening to podcasts where people tend to
ramble on.

Winamp isn't too complex. I'm not talking about the web player, I'm
talking about the traditional player. I have it. It may have more
features I don't use, but it isn't more complex unless you use the
features.
So VLC Player may have many features you want that Winamp doesn't have,
but Winamp isn't more complicated to use than previously.

I won't write in the thread again because it is off topic, but in the
stand alone player, x is play, c is pause, and v is stop. Jump to time,
such as 25 minutes, control j, type type the time 25:00 look at what I
wrote character by character, and press enter. There is also a utility,
developed by the late Carlos, I may still have for making a time marker
if you want to open a file at a certain time or move to a file at a
certain time. If you want it, write me at
gsa...@gmail.com and I'll see if I have it.
As to listening at rapid speed, I would suggest trying Windows Media
Player Legacy. There may be other players that are as good in this
respect, but it is exceptionally good.

I am a person who used to use winap all the time. i now only use VLC media player. i have the addon installed and it works well for my needs.\I can speed up ;layback of audio or video files
i can convert formats i can edit the proprties of files like media info.
VLC without the addon is limited in its accessibility. i have used the addon for years.
i did a whole lot of making talking book masters for a blindness agency in Australia and VLC was one of the tools I used to get the mono wav files for editing in to chapters etc.
the only thing I find is i cant use the VLC global hotkeys that are suppose to work anywhere on your windows machine. i am guessing it is because I use a screen reader (NVDA) and there would be key conflicts etc.

The new 2025 Whatsapp website version now updated on home computers

one message. No problems deleting single files and there seems to be no

as it for me is so old, too old. I also use foobar as it is customizable

I am using the Desktop application, have updated to the new Whatsapp. Version not sure what it is now but things have changed!
I tested out this functionality and although the steps I have written below should work, but didn't do the job. I am just referencing them for you here, perhaps I have missed out on something when carrying out the steps.
* This is very weird because if I go back to the chat and check the messages that I have just deleted, I can still see the messages in the chat window and it does not say that this message is deleted. Also I checked Whatsapp on my phone for that chat, the damn messages still show up; meaning they actually are not deleted.
I am also new to this and just trying to help in the best way I know.
1. Ensure NVDA is in Focus mode
2. Open the chat where you have the messages you wish to delete
3. Focus on the message you want to delete
4. Use right arrow to open and get to the context menu which is collapsed
5. Use spacebar to expand the menu and down arrow to enter the menu options
6. When you get to the option that says select, hit enter
7. Move to the next message you want to select and press spacebar and similarly to all the messages you want to select
8. Use the tab key to get to the delete button and hit enter
9. Tab again to get to the delete options
10. Make your selection, delete for me etc. and hit enter. You will hear it say Undo; which means the messages have been deleted

Just to say that I did manage to set a Global Hotkey for play pause in VLC using NVDA.
There are 2 points to note though. I found that only certain key combinations are accepted by VLC as Global Hotkeys. I tried various key combos before discovering that control alt and P was accepted as a global Pause Play global hotkey shortcut.
Secondly setting up the key shortcut with NVDA in VLC Preferences was not straightforward and took some trial and error with several attempts before it stuck. I am afraid I cannot remember step by step, but I do recall that you had to get the exact sequence for it to work. Simple tabbing will not work; you have to also use arrow keys and expand areas to eventually get focus to the area where pressing the desired shortcut key is entered. Then I remember you have to also navigate to the save button to save preferences for it to stick. In short it is doable but not straightforward.

I've been playing with the jump to time function and it appears not to
work properly, If I enter a time such as 00:30:00, for 0 hours, 30
minutes, 30 seconds, it doesn't skip to the right place. I tried
different entries for different times, such as an hours value, 00
minutes and 00 seconds and none acted as expected. Also, I tried rapid
listening to see if it had improved from when I tested it awhile ago,
and it hasn't. Windows Media Player Legacy is still much better. Of
course, it depends on how fast you want to listen. If you listen below
a certain speed, the VLC feature is fine, but I want to listen
considerably faster.

My main problem with WinAmp is the increasing number of formats that it fails to support, particularly with modern HLS Radio streams. For basic mp3 playing I actually use Calliope because of the ease of use with setting up global hotkeys, though I recognise some of its fancier other features, like daisy Book reading, do not work properly yet. It took me a while to set it up the way I like but I am very happy with it now for basic music and podcast playing, especially with the easy manipulation of speed etc. VLC is my default for all radio streams and video formats.

The main reason I have tried using VLC is the ability to cast from it to my google speakers, something you're theoretically supposed to be able to do in Foobar 2k which was my player of choice,. After frustrating time spent failing, I gave in and started learning VLc media player. I still don't like it.
