Adjusting volume with NVDA

Hi All,

 

Hope all of you are doing fine.

 

Can someone guide me how to adjust volume of my computer and NVDA, I am always confused about this feature, Tried few things but can’t figure out how to control volumes separately, Tried audio ducking as well. Kindly share the general rules of managing device and NVDA volume. Also what keyboard shortcuts to use.

I want to know how to manage both my computer volume if any media is playing or I am in a Zoom meeting and how to control my NVDA volume.  How to control the two separately.

 

I know how to change NVDA volume, but when I use volume control on my computer it impacts both media and NVDA volumes.

 

I hope I am able to convey my issue properly.

If you issue the command NVDA key, control v, the speech dialog is
opened. Tab around and find the volume field and adjust it.

As to adjusting everything at once, the Windows volume control has a
master setting that controls everything at once. That is what you land
on when you open Windows volume control, though it doesn't use the word
master. As you tab, you will find volume control fields for any
applications you have opened that have the ability to adjust the
individual volumes for. However, with NVDA, the fastest and most simple
way to adjust the volume is as I discussed above.

There are many addons for this function. For example, volume adjustment and tony enhansment. Though, I use volume mixer most of time since I often forget shortcuts.

You can press the application on the volume icon from the system tray list. Press enter on volume mixer and manage from there.

It is easier and faster to open the run dialog, hold the Windows key and
type r, then, when the dialog is opened, type sndvol and press enter.
You are now on the master volume control, where you would be following
the system tray method.

Thanks Gene for your input, it is very helpful.

Currently I use keyboard command NVDA + Ctrl + Shift and use left & right arrows to select a menu item and up and down arrows to increase or decrease the value of the selected item.

That shortcut doesn't give you access to the efficient volume control
where you are on the master setting field when it opens. It places you
in another volume settings structure that doesn't give you access to
that main control. The way I gave to open Windows Volume Control places
you in the structure where you are in the master setting and you can tab
to other volume setting options. A mute option is also available for
each item you can adjust volume for.

And if you haven't used the run dialog for anything else since opening
volume control, all you need do is open the run dialog and press enter.
You are still on the item that opens volume control.

Without using an addon I personally find that pressing the Windows   key and typing SNDVOL  and enter opens up the Windows Sound mixer where you can tab to all open applications, including NVDA and Zoom to adjust volumes to your liking.

Note that if you use this method there will be 2 volume sliders appear for Zoom. Only one of these will control the volume level for your actual meeting. From memory I think it is called Zoom Meeting rather than Zoom Workplace, but a bit of trial and error will reveal which works. I am not sure why Zoom always appears twice, but nevertheless I find it very effective for adjusting volumes to a fine degree the levels for all your open applications.

Hi All!

Press WinKey+B to move to the System Tray. RightArrow to Speakers (or
Headphones, or whatever the case may be). Press AppKey or Shift+F10
to open the context menu. And press M for Volume Mixer.
