Hello,

I'm currently running the 2025.3 build of NVDA, but for some strange reason it wants to update to the latest alpha build at random. I don't have any alpha builds installed on my computer, but it will randomly updates without notifying me or anything. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

Justin C.

I don't know why it's happening but to prevent this, have you told NVDA
not to update automatically? You do that in general settings.

Find the check box that says automatically check for updates, uncheck it
with the space bar, then activate the OK button.

I've unchecked this box, and it still keeps happening. I'm not sure why, but it's pretty strange.

Hi,

Does this happen after disabling add-ons?

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi,

This happens if add-ons are both enabled or disabled.

Hi,

Interesting. Can you try the following:

  1. Press Control+NVDA+Z to open Python Console.
  2. Enter the following two commands as exactly as shown (press Enter for each line):

import buildVersion

buildVersion.updateVersionType

NVDA should report “stable” after executing the second command. If not, that would be a strange thing.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi Justin,

Could you please send a debug log file to in...@nvaccess.org .
Please make sure to change the log level to debug in General Settings.
You can find the log file in %TEMP%/nvda.log.
Please ensure you send a log file of NVDA when it offers you an update from 2025.3 to an alpha build.

Regards,
Sean
