Now, what is needed is to get web designers to use landmarks in
meaningful ways. I don't use them because when I've looked at them they
tell me and move me to nothing useful. For example, the Internet is
changing and it is now common to have line after line of material
between the title of an article and the actual start of the text. Also,
on the New York Times front page, there are sections linked to that
have lots of stories on a certain topic, such as current news about the
Trump administration. To reasonable way to get to the start of the
articles except to search for a word that may be above the first story,
such as stand, and other such sections may have a few words above the
first story, but this isn't any sort of reasonable site design for blind
users. There should be a landmark at the actual start of the text in
such sections and sites should have land marks at the actual start of
article text.
Searching from the top of the page for the word by often takes you close
to the start of articles but there are some sites where it doesn't and
you still, even on too many sites, have to down arrow perhaps four lines
to the actual article text.
