Dear NVDA Community,
I hope you are all doing well.
I am writing to seek assistance regarding an issue I’ve encountered with the latest NVDA 2026.1 release. It appears that NVDA is currently unable to read mathematical formulas created with MathType in Microsoft Word. While I am aware that NVDA provides good support for Native Office Equations, many users—including myself—rely heavily on MathType.
Upon reviewing the release notes for version 2026.1, I didn't see a specific mention regarding changes to MathType support. This has become a significant barrier for my studies. At the school I attend, as well as many other specialized schools for the blind in my country, teachers still predominantly use MathType to prepare STEM materials. Consequently, many students are now unable to access their lesson content effectively.
I would like to ask the community:
• Is this a known issue or a potential bug in the 2026.1 update?
• Are there any recommended workarounds or specific add-ons that could restore MathType compatibility?
• How are schools in other regions handling MathType content with the latest NVDA versions?
I would greatly appreciate any advice, solutions, or information you could share. Thanks!
Best regards,
Anh Duc
