Goodbye, Windows App Essentials add-on (version 25.10, add-on is officially end of life)

Hello NVDA community,

After ten years, we will be saying goodbye to Windows App Essentials add-on – the final release, 25.10, is now available on the NV Access add-on store. If you wish to archive the add-on package, you can get it from:

As of NVDA 2025.2, all features from Windows App Essentials add-on are included with the screen reader. Therefore, version 25.10 will present an end of life message on Windows 11. Also, if you are using now unsupported Windows 10 (except on newer LTS releases or enrolled into extended security updates), version 25.10 will ask you to upgrade to Windows 11.

Thank you for using Windows App Essentials add-on. It was a pleasure to create and maintain the add-on for the past ten years.

Note: now that Windows App Essentials add-on is discontinued, there are no add-ons I am actively maintaining. There is one more thing I will be doing with StationPlaylist add-on that was scheduled since northern summer, and once that work is done later in 2025, I will retire from add-ons work to focus on other life activities.
