Just for reference, someone needs to update the initial email users
receive when subscribing to the group, because it claims clicking on the
link below will subscribe you to the list. Unfortunately, it does not do
so. I tried subscribing on July 4, but apparently, after clicking on
that link, it simply took me to the list of messages posted to the
group. There was nothing indicating I'd joined the list, so I just
assumed it was automatic, and I'd start receiving messages. This did
not happen. Today I sent another subscribe message, and again, clicking
on the link simply took me to the list of messages, which of course, did
not confirm my desire to subscribe to the list.
The only to make it work was to reply to the confirm message.
That is going to confuse people thinking that if they click on that link
they will be subscribed.
Someone needs to look into that.

I don't think that is an email we create. The group admin settings have a "welcome message" we can customise for when you join, but I'm pretty sure the email you get in the middle of the process is a google groups message which would be the same for joining any google group.
