Editing Software for audio files

Hi,

 

I have some recordings on my Windows 10 laptop which I transferred from my iPhone.  I would like to edit the recordings to cut out the information I don’t really want to save. 

 

I’m looking for a very simple application to help me accomplish this.  Nothing complicated.  Just something that will enable me to cut the unwanted information in order to shorten some lenghty recordings.  Most of the files are in mp4 format.

Goldwave.com is the most simple powerful solution I have found.

GoldWave is my go to app well. It is extremely powerful, which means it can seem overwhelming.

But, it is completely keyboard driven, though one can use a mouse of course, but for screen reader users, it is very friendly.

If you want to cut a passage, the left bracket drmps a start marker, and the right bracket drops a finish marker, delete will then delete that section, or you can use control+x to cut it and control+p to paste it into a new file, just in case.

When you cut out a section, the start and finish markers will be at the same place, so you would use control+j to jup to the next marker, which is the end of the file, then hit control+j again to jump to the next marker, which will be the start of the now edited file.

The user manual is excellent, but it has a ton of detail. You can install it and try it for free for quite a lot, then it is somewhere around $50 or $60 for a lifetime license.

The creator is very screen reader aware.

I myself use GoldWave and am the author of the GoldWave NVDA add-on. There are other options like MP3 Direct Cut, Audacity, among others.

Iuse goldwave and the addon which is great.  I also use mp3directcut if you just want to say edit out commercials..

Hi.

It's worth noting that GoldWave is actually a paid for program. I use
audacity which is open source with the audacity add-on, and MP3 direct
cut which also has an add-on and is free. they both work well. I don't
think the audacity add-on is in the store, so the link to the GitHub

In the middle of all this, an important question is getting lost that is, once you trim out the unwanted parts, do you still want the exported files in .mp4?

I’m a REAPER user myself, which handles video support and its complexities well. But I’ve heard that even though you can import videos into GoldWave, I’m not really sure if you can actually export them back out as .mp4 files if you wanna strictly stick with it.

you can try xtract nvda addon witch allows you to cutting a audio and video file mp3 and mp4 was also support by addon addon author is chaichaimi you can download this addon wire addon store then follow thees steps to cutting

1. select video and play yes 1st you calculate the video or audio duration to cutting witch is better to lisson lisson and note the cutt timer like 00:30  and sum once time confirm you can trimmed video wire xtract addon

2 select the video in your file explore and press nvda + x to open xtract context menu and select trimm audio or video file

and follow the process you can enter start time to cutt start part of video like 00:00/019 and the end time  allows you to cutt ending to bignning cutting

I had forgotten about MP3 Direct Cut.  I think it’s been 20 years or more since I used that one.  I remember it being very easy to use.

 

Will it work with mp4 files?

When I mentioned GoldWave, I was assuming you were not interested in retaining the video. GoldWave can edit MP4 files, but so result will be an audio only file.

i tell you can use xtract addon to trimmed, merge, and edit audio and video mp3 mp4 was also supported IM umesh Rathore from India deare nvda users you can try xtract nvda addon 

note: latest addon version not work correctly you can download sum older version supports nvda 2026.1 and later

Hi,

There is an add-on called Easy Audio Converter submitted to the store which is undergoing review at the moment. One of the review questions was, "we have audio editors and conversion tools including some add-ons, so why this add-on?"

As for mp4 files: they are containers containing audio and video data. You can edit the audio part of these files in editors like GoldWave and can save them as audio-only mp4 files.
