Good morning folks from Lebanon!

The 4 speech mode options available in the NVDA screen-reader are:
Speech mode on-demand, Speech mode off, Speech mode beeps and Speech mode talk.
All the 3 Speech mode options are very clear to me but the only Speech
mode option which isn't clear to me is the Speech mode beeps. Where
does this option used? Am I able to read this message understanding
fully its contents with this option selected? I'm reading thoroughly
through the users manual but didn't reach this area yet.

Kind regards,

Badih Khalil Zeinoun

:) beeps is useful when things are happening on screen and you don't need to hear what but you want to hear when it's finished.
output from terminal console windows are a good example of this, where you may then just review select parts of the output afterward. .
Thanks

Sean

Hello,
The bleep speech mode in the NVDA screen reader makes it emit a beep sound instead of speaking.
I've never used it and haven't felt the need to.
Best regards,

From the user guide relating to the different speech modes:

The four available speech modes are:
• Talk (Default): NVDA will speak normally in reaction to screen
changes, notifications, and actions such as moving the focus, or issuing
commands.
• On-demand: NVDA will only speak when you use commands with a reporting
function (e.g. report the title of the window); but it will not speak in
reaction to actions such as moving the focus or the cursor.
• Off: NVDA will not speak anything, however unlike sleep mode, it will
silently react to commands.
• Beeps: NVDA will replace normal speech with short beeps.
The Beeps mode may be useful when some very verbose output is scrolling
in a terminal window, but you don't care what it is, only that it is
continuing to scroll; or in other circumstances when the fact that there
is output is more relevant than the output itself.
The On-demand mode may be valuable when you don't need constant feedback
about what is happening on screen or on the computer, but you
periodically need to check particular things using review commands, etc.
Examples include while recording audio, when using screen magnification,
during a meeting or a call, or as an alternative to beeps mode.

Thanks a lot Sean for your reply, hope to try what you described
through it as I never had the chance to try it beforehand.

Have a nice weekend,

Thanks Muhammed Ali for your reply, I know that clearly but my question
in my mail was when, where and why do we use such option? I think that
Sean Randall gave an explanation for this issue and I replied to it.

Have a pleasant weekend,
