"Hi everyone,
I’ve recently seen some reports/videos claiming that the on-device AI image description feature, which was being tested in the 2026.1 Alpha versions, has been withdrawn or postponed due to performance issues and model size.
As a daily NVDA user, I was very excited about this feature. Could anyone clarify if this feature is still planned for the 2026.1 stable release, or has it been officially moved to a later version?
Thank you for your amazing work and for any information you can provide.
Best regards,"

Hello

Whether or not it is going to be included, I don't know. But what I can tell you, is that in my testing with the alpha version, I was completely underwhelmed. That image recognition is so poor that it is all but unusable. You will definitely not be able to rely on it for anything meaningful.

Kind regards

Christo

Hello,
Thank you. If it is that bad, maybe it would be better to remove it.
Best regards,

Hi all,

Just confirming it won't be in the 2026.1 release.
The feedback we got from alphas was that the quality of the image descriptions was not good enough, and enabling the feature caused significant lag.
As such, we are hoping to improve the quality of the descriptions, and reduce the performance impact, before reintroducing the feature in a future release.

Thanks all for your feedback during testing
