Word 13 and Top of Page

Good afternoon to all.

 

I am trying to learn NVDA and had a question regarding a word 13 issue.

 

Using NVDA in a Word 13 document, what are the keyboard commands for going to the top of a document? Thanks.

To go  to top of document, press control+home,

To go to end of document, press control+end.

These commands work on web pages, in emails, in folers with lotsof documents.  Very versatile.

Importantly, these are not NVDA commands.  I very much appreciate that, in its documentation, NVDA distinguishes between NVDA commands and system or application commands.  Not all developers do so and users of such products get trapped into believing that switching screen readers requires a whole lot of new learning.  And while on documentation, the NVDA manual is in one, well constructued HTML page and deserves to be read.

I'd also add for Jerry, and anyone else interested, that we do also have training material for NVDA.  While not free, we have endeavoured to make this as affordable as possible.  The training material differs from the user guide in that it is set out more in the order you might want to learn the topics, and for each it covers what it is and how to use it, then a practical step-by-step activity to get you using it.  The user guide on the other hand, has only a small amount of information about the various topics - it is great if you, for instance, know what object navigation is but forgot the command to move to the next object.  Where "Basic Training for NVDA" has a whole section on object navigation as well as one on the review cursor.

Where I was going with all that was.... we ALSO have a book on using "Microsoft Word with NVDA".  In fact, 90% of that module is how to use Word with the keyboard moreso than NVDA itself (there are some specific NVDA commands in Word, but mostly, once you learn to use Word with the keyboard, then NVDA just works and you don't need to do too much with the screen reader specifically).
