It looks like none of my current add-ons  work with the latest version of NVDA. The one I miss the most is the clock. It would be nice to have the Thunderbird app updated but am surviving.

There may be updates but the steps I have written some time ago do not seem to work. I may have written them incorrectly since I could retain more when they were written.

Hi Betsy,

I see a "Thunderbird+ G5.1 (TB >= 140)" add-on in the add-on store, is that the one you are looking for?

With the clock one, is it the one simply called "Clock"?
The description for that one notes:
NVDA+F12, get current time.
NVDA+F12 pressed twice quickly, get current date.
NVDA+F12 pressed three times quickly, reports the current day, the week number, the current year and the remaining days before the end of the year.

Note that the first two - getting the current time and date - are regular NVDA functions - the add-on adds the third one.

Kind regards

Quentin

NVDA add-on developers are in large part working on making their add-ons
compatible. The add-ons that you use that aren't compatible may be soon.

Also, every NVDA update has a What's New section and you can see it on
the Internet. You can look through it to determine if any of the
updates give you any benefits you didn't have before. For the way I use
NVDA, I derive no benefits. I do keep a current portable copy because I
like to keep up with NVDA but in terms of daily use, I have no benefit
from changing. Therefore, I would have no objection to continuing to
use the old version and I generally still do use the old version.

You don't need to do this for updates during the year except for the
first one, that is, you don't need to check the what's new information
for every release during the year.check the what's new information for
every release during the year. If you are using the current version, it
is a good idea to update when new upgrades are released during the year.
But the first new full version update, that is the first one each year,
every year breaks compatibility with many add-ons. Since there is
nothing in the new NVDA full first release this year that benefits me, I
use the previous version and have no concerns about add-on
incompatibility.

To see the What's New section for whatever release of NVDA is current,
do a search, google or whatever search engine you want, for NVDA What's
New and the beginning of the release identification such as What's New
NVDA 26. You don't have to write the rest of the number. You can move
by heading on the page and read sections or parts of sections you are
interested in.

Gene.

No, the clock one that does not work any more was set to go off every half hour and I had it sounding like a kookoo clock. I do not remember what it was called but it no longer works. That is the one i really miss. I did not even see it in my addons list for some reason but it worked until this last update.

Great info, thanks Gene!

The one thing I would add to that, is there are a lot of easily missed minor improvements and sometimes security improvements (both specific and also by virtue of updating dependencies which themselves have patched security issues) - so we would strongly recommend being on the current version UNLESS there is something you really need which is only useable in an older version.

Looking at the what's new for NVDA 2026.1:  What's New in NVDA

There are 13 bullet points in the new features section, and even if you aren't interested in those, there are:
15 bullet points in the "Changes" (updates and - hopefully - improvements, in how features work)
Importantly, there are 22 items in the "Bug fixes" section - so you are quite likely to benefit from at least some of those.

Kind regards

Quentin

Can someone help me figure out how to better download screen readers to individual websites?
Thank you

Hi Mike,

It's best not to jump on other threads, but to post a new one.  In any case, I'm not 100% clear on what you mean by downloading screen readers to individual websites?  The way NVDA (and other screen readers) work is that you install the program on the computer itself.  You can then use that to browser ANY website or use other programs on the computer.  We do get asked from time to time about making a screen reader available on a website for visitors who may require one - just in case that is what you are asking?  The reason that doesn't tend to be a good direction to aim is that if a user requires a screen reader to get around the PC, how will they GET to your website in the first place?  What we recommend instead, is to ensure that your website is accessible to those using a screen reader.  In general that is by following the standard web guidelines such as WCAG: https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/wcag/ - there are many companies such as intopia.digital, WebAIM or EvenGrounds.com who can also help you with your website accessibility.

It's entirely possible that I completely misunderstood the question though, so please do clarify and ask again if that is the case.

Kind regards

Quentin

Sorry a bit too late on catching up with this mail. I have been recently interested in using this add-on on my work computer, have been personally using Multilingual Speaking Clock

A few, if not asking much features, can there be more voices to the one that announces the time? Also can the volume of the chime or voice be adjusted? There is no option to play a sample for the message only but I remember that the chimes do play a sample when we move through the selection. This add on is simply brilliant and so handy to have in the add-on inventory. Thank you so much for your support!

I keep getting a notice to update my NAO add-on.  When I answer Yes, it
crashes and says the file is not there.  Well then, it shouldn't tell me
I can.

Howard, I updated NAO with no problems.  When turning on the computer I received the "Some of your add-ons have updates available" message.  I hit the Update All button and it did its thing.
That's probably not of much comfort to you, but it seems to work at least some of the time.
