Again, good afternoon.
I was going through a word 13 document, and came across a word that I verified was spelled correctly. However, nvda was giving me the notification that it was spelled incorrectly. Could it be that the word is not in the dictionary? It is a very common word; the word is apply. Thanks.

Hi Jerry,
I think, NVDA never checks spellings / grammar. Generally, it is the software in use responsible for it. Here, it should be Word. Please, verify this by switching your screenreader. If the spelling error is present with other screen reader, then Word is most probably responseble for it. if that is the case, then you will have to check or change something with your Proofing language from the Review tab. Or, perhaps, you will have to mes with your word dictionary.
Thanks.

Was there a capital letter where it shouldn't be?  Or was it next to another word without a space?

And, as was said, I'm not aware of the screen reader doing spell check, it is reporting what the software thinks is a misspelled word.

And is it possible Word was reporting a grammar error and not a spelling error?

I had corrected the grammer error which occurred just before the word apply. So the scenario is this:
The words in question are "not apply." As stated before, there was no grammer error notification, just the single space then the word apply; which had the spellin error before it. Unfortunately, I did not put a symbol before it; and now I cannot find it. The document is over 105 pages, with the two words sprinkled all through the document. Thanks.

Hello Jerry.

Yes, NVDA indeed announces errors in grammars.

If you go to settings and down arrow to document formatting, you can
turn that off. You will find it easyly. Just keep hitting tab until you
come to that section and disable the checkbox.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely

yours

Daniel
