In JAWS,  JawsKey + PageDown (as I recall) reads the Status Bar.
In NVDA, the NVDA Key + End reads the Status Bar. Press this combination twice in quick succession, and the Status Bar is spelled out. Press 3 times in quick succession, and the Status Bar is copied to a window.
Press the NVDA Key + 1 to turn on key describer mode. Then, each key one presses will say its name and function. Press NVDA Key + 1 a second time, and one leaves key describer mode.

My bad I didn’t state what jaws command did.

For reference insert page down in Jaws does this.

JAWSKey+PageDown

Reads the bottom line of the active window.

Yeah, that's NVDA+End in NVDA.

Is there a way to not have it read the things I would consider extra and just read the numbers of items in the folder and the unread?

Like this.

Items in View 27 Unread Items in View 11

The status bar is a bit of a mess in Outlook - I tend to collapse my groups by date so it's not bothered me too much i'll be honest.
Even the Outlook Extended addon doesn't seem to tackle this one, which is odd.

I am using m s office 2016 outlook.

I have my inbox arranged by date only.

When I use   insert+end,  all I hear is total number and number of unreadmessages.

In Outlook 365, I hear:

Status Bar Items in View 541 Unread Items in View 1 Connectivity to your server. Connected Normal View. Show All Pinned Panes. Reading View. Hide All Pinned Panes. Zoom Out 100 Zoom 100 Zoom In 100 Zoom 100% Size box

So the info is there, but it’s messy.

I’d probably use an application dictionary expression to tidy it up if it mattered to me that much.

It is correct. In JAWS, you may use Numpad 3 and not the page down key
on the main keyboard, but on the numpad, number 3 is page down.
