Hello NumFOCUS / Matplotlib mentors,

I hope you are doing well.

I have submitted my Google Summer of Code 2026 proposal titled:
"Extensible Overlay Layer API for Interactive Visualization".

This proposal builds on my earlier exploration of symlog visualization improvements and introduces a reusable overlay infrastructure for interactive annotations and contextual helpers in Matplotlib. I also developed a working prototype to validate feasibility.

Even after submission, I plan to remain actively involved by:

Refining the prototype implementation
Addressing any feedback on the proposal
Exploring smaller contributions related to overlays and visualization helpers
Continuing participation in discussions

I would greatly appreciate any feedback on the proposal direction and API design. I am happy to iterate further and align with Matplotlib’s roadmap.
