Hi Google!

I am Harman Waseer, an open-source enthusiast, and I am applying for Google Summer of Code 2021 in the organization NumFOCUS (optuna). A few proposal ideas were present on optuna's GitHub Wiki, but unfortunately, most of those projects got concluded before the GSoC program began. I informed my mentor regarding this during March end, and he gave me a few suggestions that I could work on, giving me less time to figure out the solution for the ideas he shared. Regardless, I came up with a few ideas and added them to my proposal, but this time too, my efforts were wasted because what I wanted to solve was placed as an issue on GitHub and resolved by the mentor himself. Now I am not sure whether I should submit my proposal or not, given the fact that most of the points mentioned by me have already been implemented. Can you please help?

Thanks
Harman

Hi Harman,

That is very strange. The NumFOCUS Org Admins are cc'd here and maybe they can address what happened with the subproject optuna in this situation.  The whole point of the GSoC Project Ideas list is for those ideas to be discussed with students and worked on by GSoC students. Then once students are selected whatever projects didn't get a student can be opened for others to address.

You should be sure to keep talking to the mentors and ask them what to do as far as adjusting your proposal. Because it sounds like none of the things you tried to propose are available anymore which is not okay.

Maybe look at other NumFOCUS projects?

Best,
Stephanie
