Hi everyone,

My name is Siyabulela Shabangu, and I am a Computer Science undergraduate from Eswatini.

I have submitted a proposal for Google Summer of Code 2026 focused on improving dataset automation, validation, and command-line usability in Data Retriever. This aligns with my experience building Python-based tools for data processing and automation.

I would really appreciate any feedback on my proposal, and I would also like to ask if there are any areas where I can start contributing to the project.

I am eager to get involved and contribute meaningfully.

Thank you for your time.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to follow up on my earlier message. Since posting, I have been actively exploring the Data Retriever codebase and discovered a Python 3.12+ compatibility issue caused by the removal of the imp module.

I have filed issue #1705 detailing the problem and suggesting a fix using importlib as the modern replacement.

I look forward to contributing further and welcome any feedback on my proposal or the issue.

Thank you.
