Hi NumFocus Group,
I would like to introduce myself as a potential contributor for the GSoC 2026 cohort. I am Uttkarsh, a third-year Computer Science student at UC Santa Cruz. I have experience in contributing to open source projects through my affiliation with the Tech4Good research lab, in which I contributed to open source projects regarding human-centered computing. I have strong software development experience, as well as experience in machine learning through coursework and personal projects. In particular, I built and evaluated several traditional machine learning models from scratch without using Scikit-learn, and built a neural network to classify MRI images into 4 types of brain tumors (including no tumor) using PyTorch, and evaluated the results using train-test splits.
Here is the link to these projects:
Out of all the NumFocus projects, I am the most interested in the PyMC project. I am currently reading the contributor guide, reading the examples in the PyMC docs, and learning the basics of PyTensor. I will be planning on understanding the code base and making a beginner-friendly PR this week. If anyone has any suggestions for a beginner-friendly issue, please let me know!
Regards,
Uttkarsh Tewari
