Good afternoon!

Thank you for replying to my email!  We had a wonderful holiday and now are gearing up to return to school and work.

In response to your questions:

1. The Team is a part of First Lego League Challenge which uses Spike Prime software based on Scratch. Grades 5-8 students new to coding.
2. Our club meets Thursday 3-5pm and Friday 12-2pm.  If we can have a volunteer specifically for guiding the students with their coding skills once a week until the competition that would be great. If you have someone who is interested but they have a limited schedule then please ask them to provide their availability and we may be able to work something out with them.
3. The Mid-Atlantic FLL Adventist Robotics Team Competition is Feb 16th at Takoma Park Academy from 9am-2pm. We need assistance preparing for the robot game.

Thank you again and I will look into joining NSBE again in the future considering I am currently involved with STEM education.

Warmest regards,

Laurie Golson

Hello Laurie,

Thank you for reaching out, I hope that you had a great holiday season! It’s inspiring to hear about your engagement with the Robotics Club at Vienna Adventist Academy. I’m happy to try and assist in connecting you with a mentor or resources to help prepare your students for their upcoming competition.

To provide the best support, could you share a bit more about the following:

  • Are there any specific requirements, particular skills, or expertise (e.g., coding languages, robotics platforms) that would be most helpful for the students?
  • How often would the mentor need to work with the students? Is this a one time thing, or a period of multiple days? Also, are there specific days/times that work best?
  • Could you provide more details or send a link about the February 16th competition? For example, are there specific coding tasks or challenges the students need to prepare for?

Once I have more information, I’ll send out the information to the membership and hopefully match a suitable mentor or be able to point you in the right direction for additional support.

Also, given your past involvement with NSBE DC, I wanted to mention that we’d love to reconnect with you as a member of the chapter. Your experience and commitment to STEM education could inspire so many others in our community. There’s absolutely no pressure, just know that the door is always open, and we’d be thrilled to have you as part of the chapter again.

Looking forward to hearing from you and supporting your fantastic work with the robotics program!

Good afternoon,

I hope that this email finds you well and that you are enjoying the holidays.

I was a member of NSBE many years ago when I first moved to the area.  I am working with a new Robotics Club at Vienna Adventist Academy.  The younger group grades 1-4 "Explore" will attend a festival on January 17th to share what they have learnt on their journey with the Submerged theme.

The older group grades 5-8 "Challenge"  have just started working on coding therefore it would be beneficial for us to have a Mentor that can assist our students to be ready for their Feb 16th 2025 competition in Takoma MD.

Please let me know if there is someone that may be able to assist us or who I can get in contact with to obtain more information.

Hope to hear from you soon!
