Hi,

I have a question about what is happening in this video at 00:06:46 -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORWKKiID1_w#t=406s.

I think the issue of connect is extremely important in the production of a learner-centric environment. Connect with the course facilitator, peers, course content - the environment in general. A connect ensures a lower drop-out rate. The problem of drop-out rate has been widely discussed in relation to school education, especially primary education. Can we generalize this discussion such that it applies to MOOCs? How do we ensure a strong connect in MOOCs? Here, the issue is made more complex due to the massiveness and openness of a MOOC. Can we have some principles which would better ensure connect? What would such principles be?.

Thanks!

Dear Avinash,

To ensure connect,
The challenges of learners are addressed.
Live interaction with the learners.
Personal mail for those not completing the assignments
Considering certain uneventful situations
Maintaining the interest of the learners.

Drop out rate can be minimized by the above. The peers in the group can add on to this

Dear Avinash,

Here are a few more strategies to consider for reducing dropout rates in a course.
Discussion Forums: These forums serve as a central platform for learners to engage in discussions, seek assistance, and share insights related to course content. Active participation fosters collaboration and a supportive learning environment.

Social Media Groups: Creating dedicated groups on social media platforms allows learners to connect informally, share resources, discuss topics, and form study groups outside the course platform, enhancing collaboration and community building.

Virtual Meetings: Organizing webinars or video conferences provides real-time interaction opportunities for learners. These sessions can include Q&A sessions with instructor, fostering a greater sense of connection with peers and facilitators and reducing feelings of isolation.
