Hi,

I have a question about what is happening in this video at 00:06:19 -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ4p_Nt4uNA#t=379s.

How can one develop MOOCs to create a University without Walls? A University is much more than classroom activity. How can teaching-learning beyond a classroom be incorporated into a MOOC-based learning environment?.

Thanks!

Dear Avinash

You can compare a classroom environment with a MOOC learning environment and I hope you will get the answer for your question. The learning strategies are different in a MOOC environment and the learners are from diverse background and different disciplines and hence we can name MOOC as University without walls.

Dear Avinash

Establishing a University without Walls via MOOCs requires strategic planning for designing and implementing a learning environment that goes beyond the constraints of traditional classrooms like diverse learning and flexibility, in order to foster the dynamic learning.

Happy Learning

Dear All,

The approach should be learner centric i.e. to help learners in learning through the moocs. I think the reference to "university without walls" is about providing formal degrees or certificates. The answer seems lie in the Assessment type. There may be proctored examination like in SWAYAM / NPTEL for the certification.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Dear Ravi Shankar Prasad,
Absolutely, your insights into the learner-centric approach are spot-on.  Referencing the concept of a "university without walls" emphasizes the accessibility and flexibility that MOOCs offer, akin to a traditional university education but with the freedom to learn from anywhere and at one's own pace.

In terms of assessment, incorporating options like proctored examinations, similar to those offered by platforms like SWAYAM and NPTEL, can indeed provide learners with formal certification to validate their learning achievements. By offering such assessments, MOOC providers not only enhance the credibility of the courses but also motivate learners by providing tangible recognition of their efforts.

Furthermore, considering the diverse needs and preferences of learners, it's essential to offer a variety of assessment types to cater to different learning styles and objectives. This could include reflection spots, class central page, LxT followed by AQs, LxD and finally, LxI for peer interaction and learning, which can effectively cater to individual needs and foster a truly learner-centric experience.

Happy Learning!
