same variable for points and lines

Hi,

I have a question about what is happening in this video at 00:16:28 -

In the point line cover problem the same variable k is used for min number of problems and later on when the line covers more than k points. I am confused about the usage of the variable k. Could you please give a example to clarify this. Does k really refer to lines and points simultaneously?.
