Dear learner,

Anchoring the discussion means to keep the discussion 'near' the topic being discussed. Discussions are a source of collaborative learning. But, there is always the danger of the discussion deviating from the topic so that there is a lack of connect with the subject. So, discussion is anchored using the 'focus question' etc. to keep it contextualized and relevant to the subject or context. Just as an anchor is used to keep boats in position and prevent them from moving away. Hope this clarifies.
