Doubt in the term "Probability mass function"

The probability distribution of the discrete random variable is termed as probability mass function.
But why the word mass is used in the term. In physics, we read about probability density function which when integrated over whole volume under consideration evaluates to 1. 
So, is there any logic behind using the "mass" in the term "probability mass function" here in the discrete random variable?
