Hi,

I have a question about what is happening in this video at 00:22:22 -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sefr43PGy5c#t=1342s.

Are there any situation where we get two different crystal lattices for same crystal, say A and B, where A has high symmetry and high volume and B has low symmetry and low volume? If yes, then which one should we choose as the basic crystal lattice for the given crystal?.

Thanks!

selection of correct lattice is a very important step. One has to be very much critical about identifying the angles. If all the angles are close to 90 degrees with +/- 0.05 degree deviation then one may assume it to be orthorhombic but if alpha and gamma ared +/- 0.05 deviated but beta is deviated by +/- 0.1 degree then one may assume it to be monoclinic to start with and collect data for monoclinic system and then after the data collection, reindexing with more number of reflections should be done to confirm the lattice type.
