In our life how our elders' experiences makes our life smoother, the experience shared by our peers will improve our understanding of the concept in a better way.

Dear Madam,
Discussion forum is really useful to learn several perspective from our peer learners. It will be helpful to think differently rather than confining with our own point of view.

Discussion Forums give us a feeling of classroom interaction with peers as well as the course instructor. We are free to explore, share doubts, reinforce concepts learned, give feedback from our point of view and have access to other's opinions on the same. Concluding Discussion Forums always go ahead in concept attainment, retention, assimilation and help us remain focussed as far as our learning goals are concerned.

Helen,
MOOC is about self learning at own pace. Discussion forum adds to the effectiveness of learner experience. Learners get the opportunities to ask queries, raise questions, share their views and ideas through discussion forum. Particularly this LCM approach to MOOC enables the learners to use discussion forum  through a focus question.
Discussion forum enables the learner to be active learner while watching videos, reading/viewing resources in a conventional MOOC. While in LCM way of MOOC, LxI are the pivotal aspect where the learners get actively involved to discuss and  share ideas and views in a more specific manner through focus question.
