Reflection Spot- Evaluate if the LxI Focus Question is Good or Bad "Go to the Discussion Forum and Introduce yourself:State your name, domain and where you come from."

I feel this focus question in an LxI is not sufficient to initiate discussion threads as it stresses just on the Learner Profile and has nothing to do with the course which the learner has enrolled in. It could have been better if posted as "Go to the Discussion Forum and Introduce yourself:State your name, domain and where you come from. Give your definition of Learner-Centricity by giving some example from your classroom teaching. List the examples which were different from the one you gave" I have framed it keeping the present course in my mind.

Fantastic Deepti. You actually gave an example of how to make the focus question effective. Do reflect on the other types of focus questions presented also. You are welcome to also share your views on focus questions on which you have doubts. View them from the point of view of one of your own courses.

Yes that's right. After initial introduction type questions, a variety of focus questions can be initiated as the course progresses.
The focus question to encourage discussion should be such that it considers & seeks varied responses from diverse learners. It could cover various aspects of a content, giving more scope for learners to respond.
Focus question can be also one seeking opinion or asking learners to share experiences. This can keep the discussion forum interactive.

I agree. The focus question should be designed such that varied responses are obtained, based on which the instructor can lead the learners to the next LeD.

the question is not followed by an activity, rather than formal introduction

I agree with you that the focus question for introduction appears to be bad. But now, since Gargi madam in week 4 has raised this reflection question, it overcomes that, and is  in fact very good. As the week 1 focus question together with this week 4 reflection spot has introduced much better understanding to the learner as to what is good and what is bad. I think it is a great strategy devised by the instructor, and overall it has a good impact.
