Dear instructors
I humbly request to please use simple examples in your content as most of examples discussed are from computer applications where learners like me who are from varied backgrounds donot understand the technical language and jargon. Like myself from business management could not clearly understand the computer programming examples quoted in LeD 3.1,3.2 etc..

Hello Mam,
Thank you for raising the Issue. I will refer this query/thread to the Course team. May be they can do something in this regard.

I am curious to know when the course content for a generic MOOC like this is being conceptualized, what parameters should be kept in mind for the examples that can be used in the content considering the diverse backgrounds of learners.

I asked the same question in the interactive session. In a generic MOOC, there can be learners from different educational backgrounds. Identification of learner cohorts is important in this. The data collected from the enrolment form and entry survey can help in identifying the parameters like educational background, profession, age etc. of the majority of the learners. Along with this information, the data collected from the previous runs of the course can help in deciding our target audience. The examples can be created to cater to this target audience.

This is a very useful strategy, but this will be helpful if we had run our course multiple times. Only then we’ll be having enough data to find out the background of the majority of the learners. What if it is the first run of the course? Is it feasible to change the examples while looking at the enrolment and entry survey forms? What strategy is to be followed to design the examples in the first run of a generic MOOC?

Hi Ashita
Well..I think if we are designing a subject specific MOOC,we have an idea about the background of learners to some extent and we can easily use our examples related to the subject even in the first run because when one is joining a subject specific course ,he /she expects and is ready to understand related examples like in a course on financial management , instructor will give examples related to finance but in a general MOOC like the one we are doing, the learners could be from varied backgrounds and disciplines...simple examples from real life or day to day science, the world around us etc can be more useful to which all learners are well versed with...rather than typical examples from subject specific areas

This reminded me of the question by skec...@gmail.com who pointed out that RS activity should take into consideration the heterogeneity of the learners. I think it would be difficult to customize the reflection spot activity to the learner's educational background when conducting MOOC for a course like this. I agree with Miss.Nidhi sharma's opinion that examples related to real life science-principles or trending events will help engage the learner more effectively.

Yes I agree. It is difficult to customize examples or RS activity unless it is a subject specific MOOC.
