Suppose there are two numerical variables A & B which can take values in the range of 1 to 5. If variable A can take only specific values in the range of 1 to 5 that is if variable A can take only values 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 then A is called a discrete variable. If variable B can take any real number between 1 to 5, that is it can take values like 1, 1.234. 2, 2.457. 3, 3.45. 4, 4.8792, 5, then it is a continuous variable.
