What kind of variables are comparative forms of adverbs (like more, less; good, better and best etc.)?

The adverbs given here is more kind of evaluating a given problem like rating 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. which is numerical right?
So shouldn't it be numerical?

Hi,
You can not apply basic arithmetic operations to comparative forms of adverbs(like good, better, best) that is these variables do not have any numeric properties, but as they are comparative forms, a natural order exists within values of the variable. Hence,  this variable has ordinal  scale of measurement.
Thanks and regards
