I am Harshavardhan. I have enrolled in your online degree program. In the qualifier exam there was a in which correlation coefficient was given as 0.86 and the question asked to select from the choices which of the options could be true.
a) two points are selected, one has larger x and smaller y
b) two points are selected, one has smaller x and larger y
Seeing the correlation coefficient we understand that the scatter plot has strong positive correlation but there can be few points which slightly deviate from the straight line fit and satisfy both options a and b. Hope you take this into consideration. I have sent an example of what I am trying to say. the points circled are red those which satisfies the options a and b.

They were talking about a general point they didn't mentioned EVERY POINT so that makes it pretty clear.
