Hello Adarsh,

If the rank is 1, 2, 3,... ,and so on, it will come under the interval scale of measurement since there is an order in ranking and also the difference between the rankings is 1 that is fixed.
Hope this helps.

Thank you

A small correction here.

Name can be considered to be on the nominal scale. However, rank cannot be considered to be on the interval scale as the distance between 2 ranks is not the same.

Rank of students in a class is based on total marks. Is Rank ordinal scale or interval scale?
Each rank is linked to and justified by the total marks of a student relative to the total marks of each of the other students in a given class population.
Rank represented by 1-50 or 1-1000 or 1-x is a ordinal scale since the difference between 1st and second rank is not necessarily the same as the difference between third and fourth rank and so on...

Hello,

If you also take into account the marks, then it will come under the ordinal scale of measurement. Because the difference between the marks need not be the same for all the rankings. For example,
Rank 1 - 485/500 marks
Rank 2 - 460/500 marks
Rank 3 - 400/500 marks

So, as you can see here the difference between the marks is not the same for rank 1 and rank 2, and rank 2 and rank 3. But there is an order. So, it comes under the ordinal scale of measurement.

Thank you
