Hi everyone,

I believe that choices e and f are Both correct in terms of sentence construct.
It is a matter of perspective.

Option e is the length of the shortest distance (length of hypotenuse) drawn from origin to  Ajay's current location.

Option f is the Actual path taken (step function like path) from home to current location, which, if measured, is the total distance walked along the step which is 36 units.

Even otherwise, obtained a score "0" for having gotten all three options correctly, The fourth option, as stated above, option f, is also correct, it ALSO is the total distance walked by Ajay!

How does one, request professors for revision in marks ?!!

Yes. Option e is the 'net displacement [shortest possible distance]' of Ajay but, option f is the actual distance traversed by Ajay, which the question actually asked for in the first place. But, by the same logic then, the option " Ankit will have to walk a distance of 6√17 units" must be wrong although this option has been marked right! Double Standards in the same question!
Even I lost marks in that single question due to the same mistake and my scored became 90%.

I have a similar doubt. I feel we have calculated the shortest distance. Need a clarification for this from the professors/ TAs.

Hello.
Ankit voluntarily chose to travel along the shortest path. (mentioned in the question)

Yes, there are difference between the distance (length of the line segment joining the points) between two points  and the path travelled by some one to reach one point from the other (it depends the path followed).
Best
