Ankit is located at (3, 3). He called Ajay to ask his location. Ajay describes the path he had taken from home (located at the origin) as: “ I walked three units towards East and then nine units towards North. And I repeated the same pattern thrice.” Now Ankit wants a direct path to reach Ajay, then choose  the correct options

Accepted Answers:
He should follow 4xy−9=0
Ankit will have to walk a distance of 6√17 units
Ajay has walked a distance of 36 units from his home

I want  to know about this 5th option -
* Ajay has walked a distance of 9√10 units from his home . When we are solving we got Ajay had walked a distance of √810= 9√10

Please anyone let me know where I had went wrong..??

I walked three units towards East and then nine units towards North. And I repeated the same pattern thrice.

So at each pattern he has walked 12 units. He repeated this thrice, hence the total distance he walked is 36 units.

He did not walked along the st. line joining his initial and final position.

Hope it will clarify your doubt.

ok fine. but in Ankit case we have calculated it in st.line. Isn't it?

In one question why do we want to use two methods?

Hi Suhana,

In Ankit case we have calculated it in st.line. Isn't it?

Yes that is because Ankit has followed the direct path as  mentioned in the question.

In one question why do we want to use two methods?

I am not sure what is meant by this question.  It is a good practice to solve some problems which involve more than one concept. It helps for clarify the concepts and gives an idea to apply those properly.

Hope it it helps.
