Dear Sir / Ma'am,
I have a query related to the Week 2 Graded Assignment in Mathematics for Data Science I.
In Question 3, I had answered, "Only K and N are safe". I reasoned that the bullet passes through M and hits L at the feet. While the injury would not be fatal, L would still be wounded by the bullet. But it says my answer is incorrect, and the correct option is said to be "All the workers are safe except M".
This option can be correct only under two cases.
- The bullet hits M and does not travel further in its trajectory, or
- The bullet is assumed to pass through M and hit L, but the injury to L is not considered.
The video solution uploaded to the web portal seems to agree with the first case: the bullet does not move further along its trajectory once it hits M. This is an assumption. It need not be true as we know that sniper bullets can often hit multiple targets.
Even if the bullet is assumed to pass through M (a valid assumption as I've mentioned above: snipers often aim for multiple targets with a single bullet), the injury must be considered as the unclear term "safe" is mentioned in the question, and not "fatality".
Therefore I contest this answer due to its ambiguity.
Thanking you in advance and awaiting your response,
Yours sincerely,
Anand Hari Natarajan
