IN this question if apply distance formula we get answer "Ajay has waked a distance of 9sqrt(10) unit". But in the provided answer it has given "Ajay has waked a distance of  36unit"

Yes I also want to know the same. How it can be 36 units. Ajay has reached (9,27), from distance formula answer should be 9.sqrt(10)

Distance formula is applied to cover the shortest or direct route betwween two points..Ajay has reached (9,27 ) not by direct route. but follow( 3+ 9+3+9+3+9=36) units.

Well. This is a different perspective. By distance most of us considered shortest distance.

Displacement is considered as the shortest and not distance. Distance is the actual path he followed to reach the destination. While displacement is the shortest path taken to reach the destination.

Observe in the question that, Ajay has not walked following the shortest path. In the option is was asked how much distance he walked.

Thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately I lost 2 marks for this question just because of a simple understanding mistake. 

I wish the question was divided into multiple questions similar to NAT and not MSQ :). Studying again after almost 22 years and loving it. 

Need lot of hard work and concentration. I wish I had studied like this when I was young :)
