Dear SPOCs, There have been a lot of questions from you about NPTEL and its role inSWAYAM. This email is to clarify the relationship between the two.
SWAYAM (a national MOOCs portal - swayam.gov.in) is an initiative of
the MHRD. Under the SWAYAM umbrella, several organizations (seehttps://swayam.gov.in/About) create and offer MOOCs. These courses arefrom high school level and upwards.NPTEL is the National MOOCs Coordinator of SWAYAM for engineering
UG/PG education, and all NPTEL courses are being made available on the
SWAYAM site as well. Therefore, NPTEL online courses are available on2 portals - SWAYAM as well as onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in.
The following are important aspects to remember:
1) Some of the features necessary for the certification process
carried out by NPTEL are at present available only on the NPTEL site. Therefore, it is necessary and mandatory to enroll at
onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in to access these features and obtain a
certificate from NPTEL.
2) If your board of studies has already approved credit transfer for
NPTEL online courses, there is nothing new for you. You can continue
as before.
3) If you are not interested in credit transfer, there is nothing new
for you. You can continue as before.
4) An important benefit of SWAYAM is that UGC and AICTE have issued
gazette notifications for allowing credits for SWAYAM courses up to a
limit of 20% per semester. NOTE THAT THIS APPLIES TO ALL NPTEL courses because they are also on SWAYAM.
5) If your board of studies approves the UGC/AICTE gazettenotification on credit transfer for SWAYAM courses, your students canautomatically get credit for NPTEL online courses for which they haveearned a certificate. To facilitate credit transfer through SWAYAM, werecommend that the student enroll for the same course on SWAYAM as wellas on onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in. 6) SWAYAM allows Google account login. So, the same login can be usedfor both portals. NPTEL will send a list of SWAYAM URLs for each ofits courses to facilitate the enrolment process for NPTEL courses inSWAYAM.- Team NPTEL
