Feedback from Mentors (Jul-Dec 2018 semester)

Dear SPOCs,

We hope that Mentors are actively helping the students with the courses.

We would now like to obtain their feedback.

In this regard, we have sent the following email to all Mentors of Jul-Dec 2018 semester.

Please encourage the Mentors to fill the form.

Please recall that we had earlier notified the SPOCs that a faculty can be Mentor only for max 2 courses.

Note that we had limited to 2 courses as we realise that being a Mentor is time consuming and hence we do not want to burden the Mentor.

What we see is that many faculty have been added to more than 2 courses; some even up to 28 courses!

We want you to know that only 2 courses will be considered for each Mentor.

We will be writing separately to such faculty about this asking them to tell us which 2 courses we should be considering.

We are also planning to conduct a VC session for the Mentors exclusively, details of which will be shared soon.

Greetings from NPTEL!

As you are aware, NPTEL envisions to make quality education accessible to every learner. With the increase in the number of courses as well as the local chapters, 

we at NPTEL, believe that your role as a mentor to learners from your institution is very critical for the success of this initiative. 

We realize that many mentors are doing innovative practices to encourage and support the mentees from your institution. Until now, we did not have a mechanism to get regular inputs from the mentors to understand the efforts happening at each LC. To address this, we have created a separate form to collect feedback from mentors on:

Mentorship Practices at the LC

Observations on the NPTEL Courses that they are mentoring

Difficulties faced by their mentees

The link for the feedback form is accessible at:https://nptel.ac.in/noc/mentors_feedbacks/login.php 

Please use the registered email address that you use to access the NPTEL Online Courses for signing in to the form. The form will be enabled till 10 days after the last day of the course. 

Your feedback will be made accessible to the course instructor and TAs of the respective courses that you are mentoring to ensure affirmative follow-up actions.

To incentivize the feedback mechanism, we have updated the basic criteria for obtaining a mentorship certificate. The new mentorship certification criteria are:

A mentor will get mentorship certificate if:

a. You have submitted a sufficient number of mentorship feedback.* 

b. Your mentorship points are greater than or equal to 10.** 

c. At least one of your mentee has passed the final exam.***

• For 4-week course, a minimum of one feedback; For an 8-week course, minimum of two feedbacks; and For a 12-week course, minimum of 3 feedbacks. If there are a number of feedbacks submitted by the mentor, we will be considering only the last set of feedback based on the duration of the course. 

** Mentorship Points = Number of mentees in category (40<= Final score <=59) + 5 x Number of elite + 20 x Number of gold + Number of mentees present for exam (capped at 10) 

This means that a mentor will get a certificate in the following scenarios too:

He/she has at least 5 mentees who have successfully completed the course, or

2 mentees with elite certification, or

1 mentee who got a gold certificate
