Clarfications on Scholarship queries raised by the SPOCs

Dear SPOCs,

Some queries from SPOCs regarding Scholarship and our clarification:

1. Can we mark for fee waiver (scholarship) for ALL students who enroll from our college?

No. You may mark for only deserving candidates, who are economically backward.

We have limited funds this time. Kindly apply only for those candidates who truly deserve this help.

We leave this up to the discretion of the SPOC of each college.

2. What is the criteria for NPTEL to approve fee waiver for a candidate?

Please refer to the previous question.

As long as the SPOC has marked the candidate's name in the portal, we will accept that.

The candidate has to score 40% and pass the exam to become eligible for the refund.

3. For how many courses will fee waiver be approved and later refunded?

For September exams, fee waiver will be refunded for up to 2 courses.

4. Candidates for whom we have marked for fee waiver - how much do they have to pay as exam fees?

For all candidates (except SC/ST), the exam fee per course will be shown as Rs. 1000/- in the exam form.

We will integrate the fee waivers SPOC has marked with our exam form.

Candidates for whom SPOC has marked for fee waiver - the exam form will show that this candidate is eligible for 500 rupees fee waiver.

If the candidate writes and passes the exam, the 500 rupees will be refunded.

5. Will the fee waiver money be refunded to all candidates who come and write the exam?

Fee waiver eligible candidates have to score 40% and pass the exam to become eligible for the refund.

6. How will the candidate know that he/she will get the fee waiver which we have previously marked?

In the exam registration form, it will show that the candidate is eligible for 500 rupees fee waiver.

If the candidate writes and passes the exam, the 500 rupees will be refunded.

7. When will the refund happen?

After the exam scores are published for the Sep exams, refund will be processed to those candidates who have scored 40% or above.

8. Will the money be refunded to the candidate directly or to the SPOC?

For candidates who come to the exam form and make the 1000 rupees payment directly - the 500 rupees fee waiver will be refunded to their own bank account

Candidates who pay via SPOC - refund will be made to the SPOC who will disburse  it to the candidates thereafter

9. For SC/ST candidates, will these rules apply?

SC/ST candidates - per government mandate, there will be a 50% fee waiver.

They will initially have to pay Rs. 500/- per exam.

If they also are marked for fee waiver, all the above rules apply.

NOTE:

ONLY THOSE STUDENTS WHO GET 40% OR MORE WOULD GET THE Rs 500 BACK 

- so that the students who get the waivers are serious about the learning.

Exam Score

25% of the total score can be got if the candidates are sincere about submitting the assignments. 

All they need from the final exam is 15% more or 22 marks if it is a 100 marks paper.
