Why p in platonic, and k in compassion and complete are not asp?
They are at beginning of the word so according to the rules they should be aspirated

Platonic, compassion and complete: In all these words, the first sound /p/, /k/ and /k/ won't get aspirated as these words have more than one syllable.

The rule is:

a. Voiceless stops /p/, /t/ and /k/ are aspirated at the beginning of a monosyllabic word.
b. In words having more than one syllable, voiceless stop /p/, /t/ and /k/ are aspirated at the beginning of a stressed syllable.

But why then in one lecture, potato is asp at both /p/ and /k/ in 'po' at the starting of the word and 'ta' at the stressed syllable respectively.Screenshot_2020-11-11-11-19-40-886.jpeg

P in potato is not aspirated at the initial position as the word has more than one syllable.   We will rectify the error made in the video.

The rule is:  In words having more than one syllable, voiceless stop /p/, /t/ and /k/ are aspirated at the beginning of a stressed syllable.
