Do you think that online courses can induce lethargy and procrastination in the minds of students? They have access to materials anytime and from anywhere, hence they can develop an attitude of laziness, lethargy and procrastination.

Though your question is very pragmatic and realistic, still the faculty should understand the digital habits of the students and customise the modules

It can be one of the apprehension but with digital learning becoming normal, its no way will give rise to lethargy , but will ultimately increase the competitiveness.

No, I don't think so. Online courses such as MOOCs that provide the content in a structured manner, offer learner's an opportunity to discuss and share, think and reflect, question and give answers, give and receive feedback cannot make them lethargic.

Dear friend, I don't feel it can be addressed as lethargicity, because the very purpose of any online course is to cater the diverse learners to WORK WITH EASE.Since the course is streamlined with deadlines for submissions there is no way where he can take a chance.Anyhow this is my understanding.

I donot agree with this.Infact in a way MOOCs makes a learner more actively engaged in the content as he/ she can go through the course content as per his convenience at his own pace. Instead of just sitting ,not listening attentively in the class room and wasting time, the learner will seriously go through the content when he /she feels like and is active enough to understand the same. It will increase the number of active learners who truly intend to learn something

In order to answer this question, I would like to share my personal experience.
This is the first MOOC that I have taken up. The course content is designed in such a way that it keeps the learner engaged. I am always looking forward to the day when new content is released. I have gone through most of the LxTs as well. I have enrolled myself in another MOOC this semester whose warm up videos were released last week. Most of the videos have 25-30 mins duration and lack the learner centricity part. I have not completely watched a single video yet. It is not because of lethargy or procrastination, it is because the videos are not engaging enough for me.
What I am trying to say here is that if the MOOC is designed by following the learner centric principles and the content is conceptualised well, then the learners will definitely be willing to go through all the videos and reference materials.
