In this LCM course, the orchestration dynamics have been used to the precision. I would like to highlight the prominent features which have been used to the best advantage in this course.

1) Live Interactions

a) Live interaction with the course instructors has added a personal touch in an online course.

b) It helps to alleviate a number of doubts that one has in mind and leaves us enriched in a number of ways.

c) It is an another form of peer learning as one gets to learn from the various questions the learners ask in live chat as well as through Google forms.

2) Course Instructors/ Teaching Assistants/ Discussion Forum Moderators

a) The prompt responses from the course team are commendable.

b) The involvement of the course instructors in the discussion forum encourages us to express our views.  Their involvement steers our conversations in the right direction. It helps stimulate our minds to generate new ideas.

c) Taking course alumni from the previous offering of the course is a good idea. I think the DFMs act as a link between the learners and the instructors by providing feedback as well as their insight from a learner as well as an instructor point of view.

3) Posting chat transcripts

Posting chat transcripts of live interactions in the discussion forum and creating RQ based on these is an interesting way of encouraging peer interaction and learner involvement in the course.

These orchestration decisions have definitely made a positive and great impact on my course engagement in the previous 3 weeks.

Hi,
Nice to see you have picked up many of the orchestration dynamics of this course. Can I post an open question to all in the forum:
Context: Almost all online instructors, not just MOOCs, complaint their discussion forums are dead. How do we make my course participants come to the forum?
Question:
Based on the orchestration dynamics of the forum that you have experienced, which ones you will apply when you run your own online course?

I personally feel that if I allow the participants of my course to post the answers of most if not all Reflection Spot questions in an LeD onto the discussion forum and close the loop of an LeD by giving them some hints, I may be able to bring them onto the forum wherein I as a course instructor together with the participants and the moderators engage in discussion with all regarding the possible answers or opinions.

In your context who will be your moderators if you are teaching an UG level course? What will be your selection criteria for moderators?

Focus question and Reflection quiz based on the discussions is an effective orchestration dynamic that I have seen in this course. Also the course instructors have been regularly posing questions for the learners. This keeps the learners intrigued and encourages them for active participation in the forum.
In addition to this, one thing that I would like to add in my MOOC is releasing a non - graded quiz in the discussion forum based on all the content taught in a week. I think it would increase the learner participation in the forum.
