Would you please include this one.( in week 1 , one question came )

In set theory, subset formula.
Where k is the no .of elements in group to be taken from a set of n element.

no of subsets in a set is 2^n  where n represent the no of elements

also one more question came  in the ungraded assignments and the mock test

where a^x- b^y = b^y(a^(x-y)-1)

@ nikhil , I am talking  about grouping.
If we want to make a subset of 2 elements from a set contains 3 elements .
 then n=3
k=2
Total subset 6 (not 2^3=8)

Suppose A={a,b,c,d}. How many subsets of 2 elements are possible?
.Graded assignment q.9.

where a^x- b^y = b^y(a^(x-y)-1)..Yes.

Got it, thanks!

It is more of a problem of combination .

Sometimes you guys scare me when I see such formulas in the discussion!
Suppose A={a,b,c,d}. How many subsets of 2 elements are possible?

@Malabika

Answer would be 16 right!
4 choices * 4 choices = 16
as repetition is allowed!

We are talking about set not relation.
You can directly put it in combination formula or (a,b) (a,c) ( a, d) ( b, c) ( b, d) ( c,d)

If we are to take all the possible combinations of 2 elements , will not they be all the ordered pairs in the set A * A ?

if it is distinct then nCk formula then 6, if duplication allowed total possibility 2^n = 16..

Am I right ?

Sorry to trouble ! But its a bit difficult for me to understand the formula !
but let's say we got 8 elements {a,b,c,d, e ,f, g, h}, will you share the application of the formula ? What will be the answer ?

Guys 2^n is the powerset means maximum number of subset can be  formed from  a se of n element. There is no duplication. Order is not important in set like cartesian product and repeated data is considered 1 or same.

You are right malabika.. I was wrong.. max subset possible is 2^n = 16 for any 4 element set.. if the qs is max subset of  2 elements then 6.. right this time??

For Math, just check the basics of school level math formulae, (although they are not much required) read all major concepts taught in the course (mandatory), you can pass the exam, see, it is very important to get the qualifying marks, above that, the more you can do, the better, but stay calm, read the questions, think before answering and you can crack it. Also, the questions are checked multiple times, there are no ambiguities or errors. Also, remember that it is a timed exam, so note the time you are taking and plan ahead.

submit button will be enabled 120 minutes after exam start. students can submit and leave thereafter. Submit button to be clicked by you is mandatory. You will be asked for confirmtion 2 times before it gets submitted, and once submitted, the exam will close, candidates cannot open the exam again.

Hi Debajyoti,

This is critical information! Why is it not mentioned in the instructions given with the hall ticket?

Thank you very much for the clarification.

Few of my queries.

1. Will there be submission for each subject ?
2. Will the answers will be auto saved and can be modified any number of times before submission ?
3. Can we switch between subjects and enter answers without submitting for any subject ?

I guess one of the precautions we need to do is to write question and answers in separate page so that in case of any technical issues, we can enter them again

There won't be individual submissions for each subject.
Yes, the answers are auto-saved and can be modified any number of times before submitting.
You can switch between subjects without submitting.

Pressing the submit button by the student is mandatory.
And there is only one submission (but before you submit, you will be asked at least 2 times to confirm submission).
But the button will be enabled only after 2 hours into the exam. So, if anyone wants to leave before that, they will have to leave without submitting the answers :)
