At about 12:30 today as I was looking out of the second story of my house, I was startled to see a Northern Harrier flying very fast, north to south along 12th Street, a block before Knox Avenue. The hawk was flying very low—lower than the height of our 18’ Styrax trees and the telephone pole—so I got a good look at its size as well as the white rump and striped tail. We have been used to seeing three eagles persistently flying low over our house this summer and, now and then, a soaring red-tailed hawk, but this is a first.
