The combination of flat water and a flexible workload allowed me to take my 20' Hewescraft out and about the Salish Sea on April 10th.
This trip took about 3:45 and traveled about 40mi.
This is a summary of all the birds I recorded on that trip.
Photos and a few videos can be seen here too.
Trip reports are a combination of multiple shorter eBird reports. These are a fun way to get an overview of a whole day, or even a long three week trip like this one: https://ebird.org/tripreport/290710
Starting at Birch Bay Marina I headed fairly straight toward the southern end of Point Roberts Bank. From there I went around Pt Roberts to the Lighthouse Park. Heading back I took a course closer to shore to minimize recording birds twice. Passing through Boundary Bay near the border line I went into Drayton Harbor & Blaine Marina. That was the end of my recorded miles and sightings. I did see about 50 more Western Grebes along the way back to Birch Bay Marina. The weather was mostly overcast, in the 50's and the water was mostly calm to flat.
There were thousands of birds out there. Large groups could be seen feeding in tight flocks throughout much of the trip.
