Peregrine over Bellingham

Chirp,

While walking along Whatcom Creek I spotted this bird just upstream from the Post Office. It made a few passes overhead, mostly hidden by the tree canopy.
As it moved downstream, I lost sight of the falcon. Some 20 minutes later I found it again. This time it was over Maritime Heritage Park. Circling over the museum and gaining altitude it drifted over downtown.

Great shot! I wonder which subspecies it is. It looks rather dark.

Hi Phil,

I don’t know the subspecies, but the dark brown streaking indicates a  juvenile bird.

Maybe Peale’s Peregrine. Whatever it is, it’s an immature.

It's probably just a Tundra Peregrine. Notice the pale crown.

Immature Peregrines have pale crowns.
