Chirp,
The 2021 Bellingham Christmas Bird Count was on December 19. The day was mild with light wind, no rain, and even some sunshine. Twenty four intrepid teams spent the day finding and enumerating the birds in their areas. In total 127 species were identified. Seen in unusually large numbers were Anna’s Hummingbirds {271}, American Wigeons {933}, and Cackling Geese {1241}. Hermit Thrush were seen in 5 areas. The best bird of the day was a Pine Grosbeak, seen north of Ferndale. See the full numbers in the attachment below.
A huge thank you to all the team leaders and their teams. The work of compilers Paul DeBruyn and Ronna Loerch is much appreciated. Thank you to Pam Borso, Steven Harper, and Alex Jeffers for their contributions.
Start planning now for the 2022 CBC which is scheduled for December 18, 2022. Citizen science works when people contribute their time and skills.
cheers, Douglas Brown
