Today I went out on the pier at the tip of Semiahmoo Spit, and was surprised to see a pair of Purple Martins apparently tending to young in a nest box. I didn’t think any martins would breed so late.

Chirp,

Winter Raptor Survey available:  Marion Hill and I are giving up our route that is part of Jeff Fleischer’s Winter Raptor Survey.

The route is NW Bellingham, basically between I-5 and Meridian, between Ferndale and Lynden.  The survey requires one day a month in December, January, and February.  November and March can also be monitored voluntarily.  The survey is a specific route, about 50 miles long and usually takes 3+ hours or so; maps and data sheets are provided.

I am available to assist anyone on their first survey so they can get to know the route right away.

If you are interested and would like more information you can contact me at …..

cheers,
Douglas Brown
